Welcome aboard Bayfield Peninsula’s favorite funky haunt where the art is hot, the beer is cold, and the creative vibe is baked into the building’s 55-year history as a home for the artists and outcasts in Wisconsin’s Northwoods.

The legacy of Karlyn Holman

From Karlyn Holman’s Pretty Good Pot Shop back in the ‘70s to her international career as a watercolor artist and teacher at Karlyn’s Gallery, there’s a history to this place that we’ll never fully understand. We've learned from countless stories the joy and fun Karlyn infused into creating and experiencing art — and that’s exactly the legacy we want to preserve.

The transition to Yellowbird

When Ron Piercy took over in 2020, he brought with him the Yellowbird name and decades of experience launching multiple galleries throughout the country. His endless energy and passion for art evolved the gallery into a space that showcases the work of over 50 artists and provides ten working studios.

All aboard the Ghost Ship

Ron retired from gallery work in 2022, and our group of friends stepped in to take the helm.

After running the gallery under the Karlyn Yellowbird name for a year, we decided it was time to find a name that honors the teamwork that goes into keeping things humming and reflects the sense of place we feel here on the blustery shores of Lake Superior.

Welcome to the Ghost Ship, a one-of-a-kind arts destination where you can take a pause from the daily grind and experience the fun of art.
